About the author

After studying biology Plant Sciences at Ghent University in 2007, I am currently focussing on the field of environmental science. As a student with a strong interest for relevant scientific research, I decided to study the M. Sc. in Environmental Sanitation.

The opportunity to do technological research on bioenergy was possible at the LabMET led by Prof. dr. ir. W. Verstraete. Currently I am working on a thesis called ‘Integration of solar energy via plants to biogas and electricity‘. I started this research in february 2008. In august I expect to be able to have proven or disproven that algae can be used as a viable bioenergy source.

    Hello Arjan,

I came across your text when I was surching for information about MFC opperated with algae. I am a student at Wageningen University, NL, and at the moment I am working on a group project about the state of art possibilities for algae use. Your text is really interesting and i would like to use it as a source, but for that I need some more inos about you to make it a valid text source. Would it maybe be possible that you sent me some nmore information? Thank you and good luck with your thesis.

    Hi Arjan,
Thanks for your good information about algae. I like your blog very much.
I am a student of University of Padova (Italy). I study the M. Sc. in Industrial Biotechnology. I am at the last year and now i am working on my thesis about the production of oil from microalgae. In particular I study Nannocloropsis sp. and Botriococcus braunii. It’s very interesting and i’m very motivated about this project. I’d like to know on what are u working in particular. If you want you can write to my email address and explain me better.

Hope to read your email soon.
Many thanks and good luck for your thesis.
